Is the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment the new name for BEAUTY? It is the so called Botox. Botox injections are one of the most popular cosmetic treatments in the world and celebrities like Nicole Kidman, Madonna, Donatella Versace and many many more are obviously using this procedure for artistic purposes.
There are more than 6 million treatments every year and this number is increasing as fast as the fastest car in the world. In 2006 it was declared the most popular cosmetic treatment in the United States. But, the question is: What is actually Botox and for what is its purpose primarily?
Botox is a neurotoxin derived from Clostridium botulinum, an organism found in the natural environment where it is largely inactive and non-toxic. More precisely it can be found in many natural areas like lakes, forests and soil. Also it can be found in the intestinal tracts of some animals and in the gills and organs of crabs and fish.
Botox is a substance injected into the skin which is known to paralyze the muscles and prevent wrinkles developing or worsening.
In small amount these bacteria are generally harmless. But, if you start to abuse it, it can kill you. Literally! In larger quantities it produces toxin, called Botulinum toxin that is one of the most poisonous toxins in the world. Even a small amount like one gram or 0.035274 ounce can kill 1 million people and with a couple of kilos the entire population could disappear.
It is most used as treatment for wrinkles and fine lines, but its primarily purpose is for treatment of medical conditions like strabismus, chronic migraines, excessive sweating etc.
And like any other procedure it has its own side effects like allergic reaction or light bruising or redness or sometimes patients may have difficulty in swallowing, speaking and breathing and this requires immediate medical attention.
But, despite all of that the Botox is still the most popular substance in the World of Beauty.
